Law of attraction

My mom always asks if I believe in my own succes, for example with an exam. When I answer with “No I will probably fail, I can’t do this, I don’t know why I am even going.” She always tells me to think differently, more positive. She tells me that when I believe that I can’t do it, I probably won’t. So tell yourself; “I CAN DO IT”. That is where it all starts, go confidently into the test, and you will make the test with confidence.

“In this world, there are a lot of things that are beyond our control but what you DO have control over; is how you react to whatever happens in your life. We ALL become exactly what you believe” – Oprah

Saying something like that sounds like ‘positive thinking’ right? Although it’s definitely positive thinking, it also belongs to something different; ever heard of something called the Law of Attraction? A ‘law’ which looks like positive thinking, a concept for spiritual thinkers and maybe it’s this law we should live by!

Where it all began

The New Thought philosophy; it all started in the early 19th century, in 1877 the term appeared, but in 2006 it had renewed exposure. In the movie the Secret, to be precise. The author, Louise Hay, based her movie on the Law of Attraction. She can be considered as the ‘mother of positive thinking’. For example she says that you can change your life only by staying positive, but how?

You first have to start ‘planting the seeds’. With this she means that you have to start saying the things where you feel really good about; like I love who I am. As many of us know saying something like that is hard, but that is why she called it planting the seeds. It is just a beginning, and if you water it and continue with giving it love and attention (and actually believing in it), your life can actually change.

What is this Law?

The Law of Attraction is a believe that a positive or negative thought can bring a positive or negative experience into your life. The idea behind this belief is that people and the thoughts are made off energy, and we as humans attract energy. This law works on every action or thought, we attract whatever is desired or expected. You have to determine what you expect to desire, then you can attract what you wish for.

“It’s as though every time we think a thought, every time we speak a word, the universe is listening and responding to us.” – Louise Hay.

You are the creator of your own reality

You can use this law for almost everything, as long as you believe in it. Let’s take your education, it isn’t actually about passing exams or getting good grades. You’ll have to ask yourself WHY you want to get these good grades and passing the exams. Visualize your goal, what do you want to achieve? If you can imagine it in your mind, you CAN experience it in your reality. One day, these 5am’s will make you a legend.

I always get a bit upset when something doesn’t work out the way as expected. Still I try to stay positive. My mom keeps telling me that ‘what’s done is done’ and that I can’t change anything about it. And I have to say, my mom is right: if you focus on what wasn’t working, it doesn’t make you happy. The moment I start to spend energy on the things that I wanted, that worked out and that I want it all gets a lot more positive and energetic. Leaving the negative thoughts behind and focussing on what’s in front of you, results in achieving your goals. See your goals/plans/ideas/thoughts as a plant, because what you water is what grows.
