Awesome life tips according to Charles Bukowski
As Charles Bukowski, in my opinion, is one of the greatest writers this world has ever given to us, I want to share with you, people, some of his ideas about living a kick-ass life.
- Dream big.
‘I wanted the whole world or nothing’
Don’t just settle with the things that aren’t YOUR things. Try to achieve and get everything that you want and deserve.
- Love yourself.
‘I never met another man I’d rather be. And even if that’s a delusion, it’s a lucky one.’
What’s the point in criticizing yourself about the things that you can’t change? You are as you are and there’s no one like you, so show yourself some love! Of course, there’s always place for self-improvement, but you are the only one that has to be the biggest fan of yourself.
- Live life to the fullest.
‘What is terrible is not death but the lives people live or don’t live up until their death.’
‘Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must live.’
If you want to try something new, just do it. Don’t be afraid of changing your life. As you have only one life, you might just live it to its absolute capacity – right here, right now.
- Don’t be afraid of getting hurt.
‘You have to die a few times before you can really live.’
You can’t fully appreciate happiness until you’ve experienced what pain really feels like. So if someday you think that you’ve reached the rock bottom, just remember that everything goes up from there and all the pain that you are feeling at the moment is just going to make your happiness taste much sweeter.
- Be yourself and don’t be afraid to express your own uniqueness.
‘It’s better to do a dull thing with style than a dangerous thing without it.’
Charles Bukowski certainly didn’t hesitate to be himself, so why should you?
- Be strong!
‘Sometimes you climb out of bed in the morning and you think, I’m not going to make it, but you laugh inside… remembering all the times you’ve felt that way.’
You can do everything. Even when you don’t believe that you can make it, you really can! In my opinion, we are given the things that we can overcome, so when you feel down, just remember that you are stronger than you might think.
- Don’t fear death.
‘I carry death in my left pocket. Sometimes I take it out and talk to it: ‘Hello, baby, how you doing? When you coming for me? I’ll be ready.’
‘There’s nothing to mourn about death any more than there is to mourn about the growing of a flower.’
Why waste your time thinking about the inevitable? Celebrating the life you were given instead of being afraid of death will make you much happier.
- Life just happens, don’t take it too seriously.
‘Sometimes you just have to pee in the sink.’
Weird, unexpected and even crazy things might happen and you just have to go with them. Sometimes you just can’t change the way life goes and you have to go with the flow. Things are not going to be always perfect, so don’t be upset if something is not going according to your plan.
As you can see, Ch. Bukowski really knew how to live the life, so try using these tips and you’ll see the level of happiness going up!
P.S. If you want to read something of his, I have to warn you: the way he writes is quite aggressive and the writer just talks about everything without any taboos or lies. If you are still interested, one of my favourites is ‘Tales of Ordinary Madness’.
